Singer/songwriters share their inspiring talents in our festival song circle
Sunday, March 13 | 1pm – 3pm | The Carrot (9351 118 Avenue)
featuring:
Justine Vandergrift
Justine Vandergrift is like the old hymns she grew up with – even if you can’t put your finger on what makes them authentic, they are undeniably so. Her two studio releases reveal a clear, rich voice and finely-tuned song-craft, and her new album Sailor (November 2015) represents a deepening of an already impressive artistry.
Erin Kay
Her voice is powerful and her vulnerability rare, and she hopes to inspire those who are on the same path through her music. Erin’s voice has been likened to “honey and tabasco, swirled in a cloud of smoke”, drawing comparisons not only to classic folk artists like Joni Mitchell and Emmylou Harris, but also reflects the resilience and redemption of Beth Orton and the storytelling of Dar Williams.
Rebecca Lappa
Five time CFMA nominee Rebecca Lappa is loving her musical journey. With a haunting voice & elegant lyrics, she sings about history, poetry & life events. Rebecca won Young Performer of the Year at the 2015 Canadian Folk Music Awards. She won Adult Alternative Recording of the Year at the 2015 Edmonton Music Awards, Sonic Youth at the 2013 & 2015 Calgary Folkfest Songwriting Contests & 2014 CN Youth Artist Award. Currently she’s recording an Alt-Pop CD with Russell Broom & attending MacEwan University.
